Windows Vista Compatibility

The Easy Cross, Easy Quilt, Easy Knit, Easy Lace, Easy Bead and Turbo Cross programs are all compatible with Windows Vista (all versions). There are a few issues though which can arise, these are detailed below. Note, these issues will not arise on all systems, you only need to go through the procedures described if the problem occurs. Also none of the problems will affect other parts of the program, so for example if your help is not working but you do not use it then you do not have to download the fix - the rest of the software will continue to work normally.

Access to Help System Fails

For Windows Vista, Microsoft have withdrawn support for the help system that we use for our software. They do still offer this software, but unfortunately we cannot distribute it. Instead they require that each go to their web site and download it. To do so go to the following web page:

        http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607

This will take you to the Microsoft knowledge base article, and from there the following link can be selected to go to the download page

        http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=82148

This will take you through the download process. Note that due to security restrictions built into Windows Vista that Macros and other features within the help will no longer be available. This is not a problem with our help files as we do not use these features.

Scanning or Converting Images Does Not Work

For the scanning and conversion features we use a utility that needs to be registered within Windows. Unfortunately Microsoft no longer allow these utilities to be registered (under Windows Vista) unless you are logged in as Administrator. If you have an error when you try to scan try logging in as Administrator and running the software - you should find that it works correctly (the software will automatically try to re-register the utility if it failed the previous time). Once the software has been used once then you can go back to using your normal login procedures.

Depending on how you system is set up you may not be able to log in with full Administrator rights and therefore the scanning/converting options may still fail. To overcome this you will need to temporarily turn the User Account Control (UAC) off. To do this go to Control Panel, select User Accounts and then Turn User Account Control (UAC) off.

As with logging in as Administrator, once you have done this once and have run the software, you can then go back to using your accounts in your preferred way.

REGEDIT message appears when the program runs

This is due to the software refreshing settings within the Windows registry - pressing OK will let the program to continue working normally. For the Easy Cross range the latest update will correct this.
